A former St. Louis television news anchor who admitted to fatally stabbing her mother in Kansas last Halloween has been sentenced to life in prison.

The ruling comes after Mock reached a plea agreement in the case, in which she was charged with first-degree murder.

On the morning of Oct. 31, 2025, officers discovered Anita Avers, 80, with several stab wounds inside her Wichita, Kansas, home, which she shared with Mock and Mock’s stepfather.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Mock made several statements suggesting she believed her mother was the devil and that she killed her to "save herself."

Mock’s stepfather told KAKE-TV that she had been diagnosed with mental illness and suffers from delusions and depression.

KWCH added that Mock’s stepfather said she may have suffered from bipolar disorder, which was later believed to be schizoaffective disorder.
