Comedian Bill Maher warned the Democratic Party hasn't yet "renounced their crazy" on Thursday and that it could spell trouble for the party in 2028, but maintained that Republicans were likely to lose control of Congress in November.
During an interview on "The Chris Cuomo Project," host Chris Cuomo asked Maher if President Donald Trump and Republicans taking a "beating" in the midterm elections would mean the Democratic Party successfully made the case to the American people.
"Absolutely not," Maher said. "They have not renounced their crazy at all. In fact, they're going full steam ahead. That's why I'm so worried about 2028. And a lot of the far left will take Trump's loss, they will misinterpret it as a recommendation for what they're trying to do. You know, the whole thing with communism — and it is communism."
"I know Trump says it, that doesn't mean it's wrong," he continued. "When you talk about taking over the means of production and taking over all the private industries, that's communism, folks. You can look it up."

"All this stuff, the Democrats could put this to the side for this election, even though they will be having these sort of internal debates," Maher added. "But you see that the sane wing of the party is very circumspect at how much they criticize this because they know there's just so much energy on that side."
"I mean, it's interesting we're talking about this on October 7, you know, which, man, they can't even give them the one day, you know?" he said. "It's just like that the Israeli craziness. That's another place the Democrats will see. We'll see if they can check themselves on that."
Maher said the midterm elections would be primarily about Trump.
"It is drunk on power," he said. "You know, it happens to both sides. They get in and just job one is just undoing the thing that the other a--hole did."
"I mean, we always have battles, of course, both parties," Maher continued. "And we should. That's our system. But when it gets to be this vitriolic, this personal, this hateful, this just everything you do, I just want to undo it and disavow it, and even when it makes sense not to. They just hate. When hate takes over, people stop listening to any of the logic."
Y. David Scharf, chair of Government Strategies & Controversies at Morrison and Cohen, agreed with Maher in a statement to Fox News Digital.
"Bill Maher is right to sound the alarm," he said. "What was once the far-left fringe of the Democratic Party is increasingly becoming its mainstream. That may win you elections in deep-blue states and congressional districts, but what plays in Brooklyn doesn't necessarily play in battleground America."
"Israel is the clearest example," Scharf continued. "When activists can't even put their hostility toward Israel aside on October 7, the anniversary of the deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust, and party leaders are too afraid to call them out, you have to ask who's really running the show."
"Democrats may think they're building momentum for 2028," he added. "But there's a big difference between winning over your base and winning over America."
Maher said during an interview on CNN's "Fareed Zakaria GPS" that Republicans would suffer a "classic historical a-- whooping" in the November midterm elections.
The comedian argued that voters would use the midterms to punish Trump and Republicans before turning their attention to divisions within the Democratic Party ahead of the next presidential election.
"It’s going to be a classic historical a-- whooping," he said. "Now, 2028 is a different story. The Democrats have a crazy animal living in their house called the DSA, and they believe truly insane things. And they’re the energy of the party, and they’re going to make Gaza a genocide, a litmus test, and a lot of other really stupid stuff."
